Eco and wildlife film festival

Staff Reporter

Coimbatore: The third Coimbatore CMS Vatavaran 2008, Environment and Wildlife Travelling Film Festival will be held in Coimbatore from October 17 to 19 at State Forest Service college and Kalaiarangam auditorium simultaneously.

Centre for Media Studies (CMS) Vatavaran is organising the film festival in association with Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON). CMS is a research and advocacy organisation and the festival is a part of its third film festival series.

The theme for the festival this year is ‘Climate Change,’ which was in consonance with the United Nations Education Programme theme of the World Environment Day, i.e. CO2 Kick the Habit: Towards a Low Carbon Economy. CMS Vatavaran will have special sections dedicated to International Year of the Reef, International Year of Planet Earth and other environmentally significant days. “CMS Vatavaran was not just celebrating the cinematic art of films but focusing more on using films as a catalyst for change,” says Alka Tomar, Festival Director. The festival would explore regional and local issues. Approximately 40 award winning CMS Vatavaran documentaries will be screened at the festival apart from expert talks, seminar on climate change, two symposia –‘conservation and livelihood security’ and ‘water for all in Coimbatore,’ one technical workshop, eco tour, exhibitions on climate change, photography exhibition on environment, competitions, climate expo and a film bazaar. The festival will be a free for public event.
