Tourism promotion, education counselling — package for kids

10-day Tourism and Education Fair opens tomorrow


75 stalls would be put up at the fair

Special student package tours to be organised with concession


CHENNAI: A 10-day “Tourism and Education Fair” to promote tourism among schoolchildren and to provide counselling for their academic improvement would get under way at Rajaji Hall in the city on Friday .

Giving details of the fair, being organised by Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) for the first time in the city, Tourism Secretary V.Irai Anbu told presspersons here on Wednesday that clinical psychologists would be available at the fair to help children with learning disabilities, hyper active tension deficit syndrome, dyslexia and other learning disorders.

The fair would also extend a helping hand for slow learners and special counselling services have been arranged for the children.

Experts would deliver lectures on various topics, including engineering, medical/paramedical, Information Technology and IT Enabled Services, Civil Services, overseas education, catering technology and hospitality, armed forces/police force and tourism and hospitality sector.

As many as 75 stalls would be put up at the fair. Nearly 10 government departments and two nationalised banks, three insurance companies, 23 books and stationery firms, and 15 universities and engineering colleges will be participating in the fair.

Mr.Anbu said the entrance fee for the fair for an adult would be Rs.10 and Rs.5 for children (below 14 years). The fair will be open between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. on weekdays and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on holidays.

Tourism Commissioner and TTDC Managing Director M.Rajaram said the Corporation would provide special discounts for all bookings made at the fair for its hotels (25 per cent), boat houses (20 per cent), package tours, except Tirupati, (15 per cent).

The bookings would have a three-month validity.

Special student package tours would be organised by the Corporation with 30 per cent concession and private amusement operators have also extended special rebate of 15 per cent. The fair is being organised under the public- private partnership initiative with a Chennai-based company, Spellbound.

TTDC Chairman Sanwant Ram said the fair would have cultural shows and food courts to provide a wholesome educative-cum-entertainment experience.

Tourism Minister N.Suresh Rajan, School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu and Information Minister Parithi Ilamvazhuthi are scheduled to participate in the inaugural function on Friday.
