BHUBANESWAR: In an attempt to promote the budding Odissi dancers from around the world, Kolkata-based prominent Odissi dancer-choreographer Aloka Kanungo has mooted annual international Odissi dance festival in Kolkata. The five-day festival, scheduled to be held from October 1 to 5 at the Gyan Manch auditorium, would feature about 30 promising dancers from India and abroad, Kanungo told The Hindu. “In view of the craze among the younger generation towards western culture and film dances and lack of adequate patronage for the classical arts, the future of Indian classical dances is at stake,” she explained.
