Berhampur: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has given permission to MKCG Medical College here to admit students in the enhanced capacity of 150 in the current session, official sources said. The number of seats in the medical college was increased from 107 to 150 last year. “The MCI has recommended to the government to take students for admission as per enhanced capacity this year,” Sonamali Bag, principal of the medical college, said quoting the MCI website. The letter in this regard was, however, yet to reach here, the principal said. Meanwhile, the MCI had deferred its decision to increase the seat strength in SCB Medical College at Cuttack. “The decision is likely to be taken within the next two weeks after getting some information from the State government,” sources said. The MCI had also increased the number of seats in the VSS Medical College at Burla from 107 to 150 last year. But the council was yet to renew the proposal of the State government. Inspection“Inspection to the medical college has been completed and the MCI is likely to take a decision shortly,” they said. However, the seat strength in the SCB Medical College at Cuttack had been increased to 150 five years ago. The MCI had decided to renew the permission for admission of second batch of students against the increased intake (from 107 to 150) for the MKCG Medical College this year. – PTI
