Fact-finding team appointed

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Syndicate of the University of Kerala on Wednesday appointed a three-member fact-finding team to get to the bottom of the controversies over the missing OMR answer sheets of the examinations for the post of university assistant held in 2005.

The team headed by Syndicate member C. Bhaskaran has as its members Syndicate members Cyril Johnson and P. Mohammed Kunhu. It will submit its report in 10 days. The team has been asked to find out whether the OMR sheets were sent to the university by the evaluating agency, and if not, what happened to them. The team will also attempt to find out whether the answer sheets are irrecoverably lost and if so, under what circumstances this happened. The team will also probe whether there has been any lapse on the part of any person relating to the safekeeping of the answer sheets. The Syndicate has authorised the team to collect oral and documentary evidence from individuals and agencies and to travel to various places including to the place the evaluating agency is located to gather evidence, a pressnote issued here said.

The Syndicate also discussed the report of the committee that probed the allegations against the head of the department of biotechnology V. Thankamani who is now under suspension. The report concludes that 10 out of the 12 charges mentioned in the memo of charges served to Dr. Thankamani are true. The meeting decided to seek Dr. Thankamani’s response to the findings of the enquiry committee.
