CHENNAI: The Chennai City Traffic Police have announced certain modifications in the movement of vehicles at the Kathipara junction to facilitate completion of the pending work on the grade separator there. The new traffic arrangement would come into force on Saturday. According to a release, under the arrangement, vehicles coming on GST Road from airport and heading towards Ashok Pillar via Inner Ring Road would use the flyover as usual. While vehicles coming on GST Road and bound for Halda junction via Guindy would take the service road and then take a right turn at the junction underneath the bridge, those coming on GST Road from airport and proceeding towards Porur via Mount Poonamallee Road would take the service road and then take a left turn into Mount Poonamallee Road. No straight movement would be allowed below the fly over on the direction from Inner Ring Road to airport and vice versa. From Ashok PillarVehicles coming on Inner Ring Road (IRR) from Ashok Pillar towards airport via GST Road could use the flyover as usual. However, vehicles coming on IRR from Ashok Pillar and bound for Porur via Mount Poonamallee Road would have to take the flyover towards airport and then take a ‘U’ turn at the Military hospital and proceed towards Porur via the GST Road and take a left turn at HIET. Vehicles coming on IRR from Ashok Pillar and proceeding towards Halda junction via Guindy would take a left turn at CIPET junction and proceed via Guindy Industrial Estate. These vehicles would not be permitted to take a left turn from via the service road. From Mount Poonamallee RoadVehicles from Mount Poonamallee Road towards Ashok Pillar via IRR would take a left turn at Defence Colony junction, then a right turn into the Burial Ground Road, followed by a left turn on to Sundar Nagar Road, a right turn in to the South Phase Road and then a left turn in to IRR at CIPET junction. The road from Defence Colony Mount Poonamallee Road up to South Phase Road would become a one way movement in the direction from Defence Colony towards CIPET junction. The road from CIPET junction to South Phase Road would remain a two-way movement. The movement of traffic from Mount Poonamallee Road towards Halda junction via Guindy would take Butt Road, left turn into DP Road, take right turn in to Paul Wells Road, take the service road underneath the bridge take the new service road and join GST Road near Balaji Hospital. The movement of traffic from Mount Poonamallee Road towards airport would take Butt Road, left turn into DPO Road, take right turn into Paulwells Road, take service road underneath the bridge, take a ‘U’ turn on the GST Road near Balaji Hospital and proceed to airport via service road. From GuindyThe movement of vehicles from Guindy towards airport via GST Road would remain unchanged. Vehicles from Guindy to Porur via Mount Poonamallee Road would take GST Road and take right turn underneath the bridge opposite the Alandur Municipality near Nehru statue, take new service road near HIET and left turn into the Butt Road and proceed as usual. Vehicles from Guindy to Ashok Pillar via IRR should take the GST Road then take a ‘U’ turn at the junction near Military hospital and use the flyover. From Guindy Industrial EstateUnder the arrangement, vehicles from Guindy Industrial Estate towards airport would take the IRR and use the flyover. Vehicles coming from Guindy Industrial Estate and heading towards Ashok Pillar via IRR would take left turn at CIPET junction, take the service road and then take a ‘U’ turn underneath the bridge opposite SIDCO, then take service road and proceed via Inner Ring Road, the release said.
