Sub-inspector arrested

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: The city police on Wednesday arrested the sub-inspector who allegedly harassed his wife, father-in-law and brother-in-law and fired in air from his service pistol at Jaraganahalli in J.P. Nagar police station limits on Sunday night.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) S. Ravi said Anil Kumar, the sub-inspector in Channammakere Achchukattu police station, was found in a resort at Doddaballapur. Anil Kumar was staying there with his friends Sudhindra and Yogesh, who accompanied him to his in-laws’ house on the day of the incident.

“We were continuously tracking his movement,” Mr. Ravi said without disclosing the way the police sub-inspector was nabbed.

On Sunday night, Mr. Kumar came to his father-in-law L. Nagalingaiah’s house at Jaraganahalli to take back his wife Roopa, who was staying there for a week. He slapped Ms. Roopa and allegedly assaulted Mr. Nagalingaiah when he tried to come to her rescue.

Mr. Kumar then allegedly bit Roopa’s brother Manjesh on his hand and shot two rounds from his service revolver before running away.

It is learnt that Mr. Kumar, on Wednesday, refuted the allegations. Mr. Kumar alleged that he was the one who was assaulted by his wife and her relatives, which was why he fired in the air. Mr. Kumar said he did not trust his wife.

Dies of burns

A woman died of burns on Wednesday morning. The name of the victim was given as Kavitha, wife of Sanjay Saxena, who is an employee of a private company.

The police said that on June 19, Kavitha attempted to commit suicide by dousing herself with kerosene and set herself on fire at her home on Gospel Street, Bagalur Layout.
