Motorcyclist killed

Special Correspondent

TAMBARAM: A 52-year-old man was killed on the spot when the motorcycle he was riding came under the wheels of a lorry on Radha Nagar Main Road in Chromepet on Wednesday morning.

The victim, Sivakumar, a resident of Zamin Raaypettai near Chromepet, was working in a private firm in Porur. He was hit by an autorickshaw coming in the opposite direction at 10.30 a.m. In the impact, he fell off his bike and came under the wheels of a lorry carrying sand mined from the dry bed of a lake nearby.

Ranganathan, councillor of Pallavaram Municipality from Raayapettai, said lorries transporting sand quarried from dry lake beds passed through narrow roads of Raayapettai and Chromepet.

Lorries should be diverted through alternative routes or the roads should be widened and improved, Mr. Ranganathan said.
