KARAIKAL: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal on Wednesday appreciated the tsunami rehabilitation works being carried out by the Rajiv Gandhi National Relief and Welfare Trust in Karaikal district in the Union Territory of Puducherry. Mr. Jaiswal, who handed over the school and community halls built at Pattinacherry, Karukkalacherry and Keezhakasakudimedi coastal villages at a cost of Rs.2.50 crore at a function at Pattinacherry coastal village, said that the trust had allocated Rs.10 crore for construction of schools and community halls in tsunami hit villages. He handed over the keys of school buildings and community halls to V.Narayanasamy, Union Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs. Mr. Narayanasamy, said that adequate funds would be allocated for carrying out various development projects including construction of new port, fishing harbour, establishing temple township at Tirunallar and underground water scheme in Karaikal. Motilal Vora, MP and Trustee of Rajiv Gandhi National Relief and Welfare Trust for Tsunami Victims, said that nearly Rs.7 crore was allocated for Karaikal for construction of school buildings and community halls.
