CFA AGM held as scheduled

CHENNAI: Seventy of the 90 active clubs in the Chennai Football Association joined hands to ensure that the Association’s General Body meeting was held as scheduled here on Wednesday.

What’s more, the elections were also held and as per the outcome Ravikumar David and E. Sugumaran were elected the new CFA President and Secretary respectively.

The existing President C.R. Visswanathan, whose nomination was there for that post, and his team did not attend the meeting.

The Tamil Nadu Football Association had on Tuesday issued a notice that the said meeting should be deferred until the General council of the TFA met in Coimbatore on July 28 and deliberated the issues relating to active and inactive clubs.

Mr. Visswanathan had also dashed off a letter to all the clubs that the meeting would not take place.

Clubs’ demand

Subsequently, it is learnt that the 50 clubs came up with a signed demand that the meeting should be conducted. Secretary Sugumaran said that in the absence of the President, the meeting was convened as per the advice of vice president Kumaresh, who also chaired the general body.

Apart from passing a few resolutions, the elections were also held in the presence of an observer — Mohan, Assistant Director, SDAT.

The other office-bearers: Vice Presidents: Baluswamy, Fr. Gerard, Kumaresh and V.M. Pugazhendran; Assistant Secretaries: S. Kantharajan, P.M. Radhakrishnan and T. Ramesh Babu; Treasurer: A. Mukundan; Executive Committee: A. Anandan, George Fernandez, S. Anantharaj, A. Gnanaprakasam, T. Kalaivanan, P. Manivanan, S. Mohanraj, P. Munuswamy, P. Pandurangan and J.T. Theyaneswaran.
