‘We are going ahead with deal, we will choose our own time’

New Delhi: The Congress on Wednesday night struck an aggressive posture on the nuclear deal with the United States, saying it was going ahead with the agreement with the timing of its choice.

“We are going ahead with this deal. That is very clear. And the timing is ours. We will choose our own time,” Congress leader Veerappa Moily told NDTV.

Mr. Moily’s remarks came soon after the Wednesday meeting of the United Progressive Alliance-Left committee on the deal failed to end the deadlock between the Left and the government on the issue.

He, however, said: “we are confident that logic and rationale will be driven home to the Left parties. We will put the country’s national interest foremost than their party agenda.”

All attempts were on to bring the Left parties on board, Mr. Moily said: “they have lot of apprehensions and we should also give them the space. Not that we bulldoze our decision like that in a coalition arrangements like this. We are taking steps one by one. We are really gaining ground to the extent that we are driving home the issues to the Left parties from the beginning.” — PTI
