Shimla: Asking the Centre to consider an alternate route for the Kailash Mansarovar yatra through Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal has claimed it will be safe and short in comparison to the present journey. The State Government will take up the matter of declaring the Himachal route as an alternative for Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims with the Centre, Dhumal said on Wednesday after flagging off a group of Kailash pilgrims in Leh. He said that in earlier times most pilgrims preferred travel through Himachal Pradesh and it was the “normal” route between India and Tibet. He said the Centre should take effective steps to link border areas of the Spiti and Ladakh by rail, road and communication to strengthen defence. --PTI
