MALAPPURAM: District Police Superintendent P. Vijayan has said that criminal tendency among the youth has been on the increase and that most criminals are addicted to drugs. He was inaugurating a campaign against drugs organised by the Central Field Publicity Directorate at the Government Higher Secondary School, Makkaraparamba, near here on Thursday. The programme marked the global celebration of the anti-drugs day. Mr. Vijayan warned the students against trying any form of drugs. “Drugs would shorten your life drastically,” he told the children. District Panchayat member Pulpadan Sakeena presided over the function. Makkaraparamba grama panchayat president P. Khadeeja gave away prizes to the winners of competitions held as part of the anti-drugs day programmes. Field Publicity assistant C. Udayakumar presented the topic of ‘keeping away from drugs’. President of the parent-teacher association Venkita Basheer welcomed the gathering. M. Geeta, faculty member, proposed a vote of thanks.
