Kozhikode
Kozhikode: An Assistant Commissioner of Police has sent a lawyer notice to the secretary of the Kozhikode unit of the Youth Congress accusing him of making defamatory statements and indulging in character assassination during a demonstration organised by his party in front of the Civil Station to protest against the government’s stand on the food security scheme. The notice was sent by C.M. Pradeep Kumar, Assistant Commissioner (North), to Youth Congress district secretary Thiruvalloor Murali through lawyer and social activist Manjeri Sunderaaj. Mr. Murali was among the 300-odd party workers booked by the police in connection with the violence that broke out during the demonstration in front of the Civil Station. The Youth Congress secretary, in his speech, allegedly used abusive and derogatory language against the police in general and Mr. Pradeep Kumar in particular, it was alleged in the notice. The notice says that by indulging in such unruly behaviour in recent days Youth Congress workers have been tarnishing the reputation of their parent party which had won freedom for the country through a non-violent and disciplined agitation. The Youth Congress leader has been asked to send his response to the issues raised in the notice within a week of receipt of the letter. The question of initiating criminal and civil cases for defamation will be considered as soon as his reply is received, Mr. Manjeri Sunderarj said on Thursday.
