PUDUCHERRY: A meeting held here on Wednesday to review the internal security situation expressed concern over the increasing incidence of crime in Puducherry. Union Minister of State for Home Sri Prakash Jaiswal, Union Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs V. Narayanasamy, Lieutenant Governor Bhopinder Singh, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and Lok Sabha member M. Ramadass participated in the meeting. Chief Secretary Rakesh Behari, Director-General of Police A.S.Khan and other officials concerned were also present. According to a release issued by Raj Nivas on Thursday, it has been decided to empower the Police Department by strengthening manpower and infrastructure, to help them take preventive measures and bring down crime rate. The DGP has also been directed to evolve an effective “traffic regulation mechanism” to ease congestion and accidents, the release said.
