MASSIVE PREPARATIONS: Cloth bags and other campaign materials being despatched to schools and colleges by the green brigade of the Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore on Thursday. — COIMBATORE: School students are already exchanging plastic bags for those made of cloth. College students will do it on Friday and residents will follow suit on Saturday, as part of the anti-plastics drive of the Residents’ Awareness Association of Coimbatore. From the school and college-specific drive on Thursday and Friday, the programme will move on to cover the entire city on Saturday when Mayor R. Venkatachalam and his team at the Coimbatore Corporation will launch the distribution of cloth bags to the public. RAAC’s office was a picture of hectic activity and of the drive moving into top gear on Thursday. Campaign materials and cloth bags were being packed for despatch to schools and colleges. “Work has also begun to install four monsters to highlight the ill-effects of plastics. Sri Krishna College, Kongunadu College, PSG College and Science and SNR College have sponsored a monster each,” vice-president of the association G. Soundararajan further said.
