The SEZ will be established at a cost of Rs. 59.4 crore It will come up at Kolhar Industrial area on 500 acres of land BIDAR: A proposal for establishing a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for textiles has been cleared for Bidar district by the State High Level Clearance Committee. The move will give a boost to employment generation in the district which does not have major industries. Jade Holdings Private Limited of Bangalore has evinced interest in setting up the SEZ at Kolhar Industrial area on 500 acres of land. The SEZ will be established at a cost of Rs. 59.4 crore. The clearance for the project was given in March. While according clearance to the sector specific SEZ for textiles, the committee has asked the officials of Karnataka Industrial Development Board, Bidar to initiate steps to allot 500 acres at Kolhar Industrial area. The textiles project would generate about 18,000 jobs in the district. Development plan
The committee has directed the company to prepare a plan for development of human resources required for the project, train local people and provide employment to trained local youth., senior officials of KIADB told The Hindu here on Thursday. Besides providing employment to local people, the committee has asked the company to comply with the government policies of employment of local people, they said. The company has been advised to take-up social infrastructure development project in the vicinity of the proposed unit. Land availabilityThe officials said last week a letter from the higher officials seeking a report on land availability for setting up of the SEZ in Kolhar industrial area had come and officials are looking into the land allotment. They said that the company has been permitted to draw 30 lakh itres per day water from downstream of the Karanaja dam from the river, subject to availability. The company has been directed to adopt rainwater harvesting and water recycling in its unit. Welcoming the establishment of SEZ in the district, president of Bidar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) B.G. Shetkar said: “It will help developmental activities in the district, apart from providing employment opportunities to local people.”
