Students need not waste one year Examination fee fixed at Rs. 1,000 MADURAI: Undergraduate students with arrears in final-year need not waste one academic year to appear for examinations again. Madurai Kamaraj University has introduced supplementary examinations to help students clear their arrear papers in the same academic year without having to wait for one more year to go for higher courses or jobs. “We are responding to a long-pending demand of Senate members and it comes into effect from this academic year itself,” R. Karpaga Kumaravel, Vice-Chancellor, said at a special Senate meeting here on Thursday. The move will help UG students who are not able to get degrees just for want of pass marks in the subjects listed for sixth semester. Moving a complimentary motion, S. Vivekanandan, general secretary, MUTA, said that when thousands of Plus Two students were able to write supplementary examinations, it should be possible for college students also “and hence this decision of the university will help students.” A set of conditions for students to appear for supplementary examinations were announced. The candidates are permitted to appear for papers listed for sixth semester only, provided he or she has passed in all subjects up to fifth semester, including in practicals. Application form can be downloaded from www.mkuniversity.org and an examination fee of Rs.1,000 is fixed for each subject. Students can also apply on a plain paper. The university would be the only examination centre and they should apply through the principals of respective colleges on or before July 8. A candidate applying for supplementary examination for the paper in which he has failed in the final semester is not eligible to apply for revaluation of that particular paper.
