It will also hold birth centenary of writer Bhagabati Charan Panigrahi BHUBANESWAR: New Delhi-based Sahitya Akademi, the apex literary body of the nation, will publish translation of five Oriya literary classics into other Indian languages and English. It will also host the birth centenary celebration of eminent Oriya writer Bhagabati Charan Panigrahi in Kolkata later this year. These were some of the major resolutions that the akademi’s Advisory Council for Oriya language adopted during its recent meet at the regional office in Kolkata. This was the first meeting of the newly constituted council comprising convener and noted novelist Bibhuti Patnaik, Satakadi Hota, Subhendu Mund, Gourahari Das, Sunil Prusty, Gayatri Saraf, Aswini Kumar Panda, Lipi Hembram and akademi’s Programme Officer Mihir Kumar Sahoo. It was also attended by akademi secretary A. Krishnamurty and regional secretary R. Mukhopadhyay, sources said. Literary worksThe literary works selected for translation were Fakir Mohan Senapati’s ‘Lachhama’, Gopinath Mohanty’s ‘Paraja’, Godabarisha Mohapatra’s ‘Nila Mastrani’, Surendra Mohanty’s ‘Nilasaila’ and Sachi Routray’s ‘Baji Rout’. The meeting further recommended travel grants for six Oriya writers below the age of 40. Each of them would receive Rs.15,000 to travel to another State to meet writers in other regional languages. Similarly, six Oriya women writers were selected for the akademi’s exclusive programme for women writers while seven young writers were taken in for ‘Mulaqat’, the other innovative programme for promotion of young writers. The akademi would host a national seminar in Kolkata in December on Bhagabati Charan Panigrahi who died young. Legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen, who had made the Oriya movie ‘Matira Manisha’ based on Kalindi Charan Panigrahi’s literary classic, would inaugurate the event.
