Members agree to plan mooted by CEO of SCB Residents should segregate municipal solid waste HYDERABAD: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) has decided to entrust the responsibility of maintaining existing colony parks to the residential welfare associations. An amount of Rs. 3,000 a month would be paid to each association towards parks upkeep. At the ordinary meeting of SCB, members agreed to the proposal mooted by CEO V. Premchand. However, he put a condition: “We will hand over parks only if the association comes forward to help us segregate municipal solid waste into biodegradable and non-biodegradable,” he said. The tricycle system was already functioning in the area and it only needs to have two separate baskets to segregate the wastes at households. Pumping stationsConsidering the problems associated with manning and operating pumping stations, tenders have been floated to hand them over to a private party with requisite technical experience. An annual maintenance contract of Rs. 18 lakh is to be finalised for five pumping stations per annum. Existing sanitary staff will continue to take care of minor repairs and each pumping house will have two technical staff to ensure proper water supply, he said. Water supplySCB is also to take over water supply of five colonies of Mahendra Hills subject to each household paying a flat fee of Rs. 10,000 and previous bill arrears of Rs. 1,500 which is expected to garner Rs. 38 lakh revenue. About 196 households of 380 have paid and rest are expected to follow. In the first phase, Trimurthy Colony supply would be taken over. OctroiAnother motion to abolish Octroi was passed with an additional note that the toll tax would be hiked. Culverts are to be widened on Wellington Road, Brig. Sayeed Road, P&T Colony, Indirammanagar and Bhavana Colony in Bowenpally. The CEO assured to come up with a building regularisation plan as was being implemented in rest of the State on a representation made by all members.
