Civil station at Kudappanakunnu

Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs M. Vijayakumar announced here on Thursday that the first phase of the construction of a civil station at Kudappanakunnu would be inaugurated on July 15.

A pressnote quoting him said the District Collectorate would be shifted to the new complex in July itself. Other offices under the district administration would be shifted in a phased manner.

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan would inaugurate the building.

The development of the roads leading to the civil station would be completed before the inauguration.

Mr. Vijayakumar said the previous UDF government had accorded administrative sanction for the construction of only four floors of the complex.

“It is only in November 2007 that the government sanctioned the estimate of Rs.17 crore for the construction of nine floors,” he said.

The first phase of the project involves the construction of a complex with a carpet area of 1,70,000 sq feet and access roads to the site. The trees on the premises would be retained to maintain the green cover.

The road from Peroorkada to the civil station complex is also being widened.
