CUTTACK: Alleging massive irregularities in the results of the Matriculation examinations, which were published on Wednesday, hundreds of agitated parents gheraoed the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) office here on Thursday. The agitated parents, however, relented when BSE secretary P K Samal assured that all the grievances of the students would be addressed within 10 days. The students, teachers and parents were all furious alleging that the evaluation of answer sheets and publication of this year’s results were done in most “casual” and “lackadaisical” manner putting the future of many students in disarray. Results of at least 14,000 students are withheld this year which is an all time record. Results of only a few hundred students were withheld in previous years. “But this year the BSE authorities, who were already late to publish the results by over three weeks, in a bid to do it hurriedly made the blunder,” the parents allege. Similarly, many brilliant students, who have scored good marks in other subjects, were aghast to see their Mathematics (compulsory) paper mark. Many students have got only just pass mark (30) in Mathematics whereas their marks in other subjects are above 90. “This clearly indicates that the mathematics papers have not been evaluated properly,” said a parent who had rushed here from Berhampur. Worried over the fact that their wards would not be able to apply for higher studies as admission processes for Plus II have already started in many institutions, parents of those students whose results are withheld threatened to launch an agitation at the BSE office. The BSE secretary, however, assured that the withheld results would be published in 10 days. Similarly, the discrepancies in the marks, particularly in mathematics would be rectified within 10 days, Mr. Samal said.
