Charred bodies found

Staff Reporter

All the four victims in their mid 20s appear to be labourers

HYDERABAD: Mystery shrouded the death of two men and two women whose burnt bodies were found in the semi-forest area behind Medchal railway station on Thursday.

No visible injuries were found on the bodies. This and severe burns on the bodies from head to waist led the police to believe that they set themselves ablaze in a suicide pact. The Alwal zone DCP G. Sudhir Babu said, however, investigation from all angles, including the victims being burnt to death, was on.

A case of suspicious deaths under section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code was registered. Policemen of Medchal on the local beat were patrolling the area when they stumbled upon the bodies. The two men wore trousers and shirts that were almost totally burnt. The saris worn by the women too got completely burnt. A five litre can with toddy inside was lying near the spot. Another can, in which they believed to have carried either diesel or kerosene, was found lying in melted stage. “The pattern of serious burns from head down to waist suggested that they doused themselves in diesel or kerosene before setting afire,” the Alwal DCP G. Sudhir Babu.

A burnt bed sheet standing over which they were believed to have set themselves afire was recovered from the scene. A landline telephone number found on the diary slip was traced to Gonegupalli of Nizamabad district but the phone owner said no person known to him were missing.
