Protest against compulsory donations

TIRUNELVELI: Condemning the collection of compulsory donations by government, aided and matriculations schools and colleges, members of Ayya Dharmayuga Vazhi Paeravai conducted demonstration here on Thursday.

Led by the founder president of Ayya Dharmayuga Vazhi Paeravai, P. Balamurugan, the protestors raised slogans against the collection of compulsory donations from the students.

As the protestors had suspended a balance at the venue with books on one side of a weighing scale and a suitcase on the other side, the novel arrangement disseminated the message to the onlookers so effectively.

‘Constitute adequate special teams’

Addressing the protestors, Mr. Balamurugan said that the State Government should constitute special teams in adequate numbers to conduct surprise raids in the schools and colleges to check for collection of exorbitant fee and compulsory donations from the students.

“The administration of schools and colleges, which found to be fleecing the students and their parents for admitting the pupils, should be taken over by the government immediately and criminal proceedings initiated against everyone concerned for this ultramodern robbery,” Mr. Balamurugan said.

They also demanded filing of criminal cases against those who have illegally occupied temple lands across the State.

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam office-bearers M.S. Sudharshan, D. Ramesh, S. Krishnan, M.S. Mani of Thenmaanila Thevar Paeravai and others addressed the protestors.
