To react instantly during emergency: Vijay Kumar

The teams were trained by Special Task Force personnel

Steps will be taken to augment the manpower

Coimbatore: An exclusive force with 40 personnel each has been created in every district to react instantly during an emergency, Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) K. Vijay Kumar said here on Thursday.

He was talking to reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of the 20th State-level professional sports meet.

The special teams, to be under the command of Superintendents of Police, were trained by Special Task Force (STF) personnel. The process was completed in March. Steps would be taken to augment the manpower, Mr. Vijay Kumar said. The efforts of the special teams would be supplemented by additional reinforcements from the Tamil Nadu Special Police and the Special Task Force, depending on the need.

Tackling naxals

On deployment of the Special Task Force in the jungles along the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border to combat naxal activities, Mr. Vijay Kumar said Tamil Nadu police was interacting with their counterparts in Karnataka for verifying information, acting upon information received and intelligence sharing. On manpower shortage faced by the police across the State, he said 5,000 recently recruited personnel were under training and would be joining in three months.

Filling of vacancies was an ongoing process. Mr.Vijay Kumar said the Chief Minister had announced delegation of powers to the Police administration for recruiting of police personnel without approaching the government every time seeking approval.
