Chennai: Anant Bhagwat, Secretary, Maharashtra Bridge Association, is one of the six finalists for the International Bridge Press Association (IBPA) Book of the Year award 2008, for his book ‘The Bridge Adventures of Mr. Badhir.’ The character of Mr. Badhir is modelled after Rueful Rabbit, created by the legendary Bridge writer, Victor Mollo. The winner will be announced during the forthcoming Olympiad in Beijing. A career banker, Bhagwat has been a hardcore sportsman all his life. He has represented Maharashtra in badminton, is an NIS (Patiala) accredited coach in the same game, a National-level carrom player and a regular Tournament Director in the bridge Nationals. Bhagwat is the second Indian to be nominated for this award. Baroda’s Jayaram, who now regularly covers major bridge tournaments for this newspaper, was the first to be in the list of six finalists for the same IBPA award in 2006, for his book ‘Serendipity in Bridge.’ He lost out to Sabine Auken of Germany.
