Chennai: India won two gold and five bronze medals at the Commonwealth karate championships in Edinburgh recently. The two gold were bagged by Seeta Patel and Anirudh Sakpal, who won the 7-9 age group kata events for girls’ and boys’ respectively. The bronze medallists were Arzoo Jain (girls’ kata, 7-9), Anirudh Sakpal (boys’ kumite, 7-9), Monali Roy, Srishit Godbole and Natalia Dalal (boys’ team kata, under-15), Seeta Patel and Arzoo Jain (girls’ team kumite, u-9), and Behram Kapadia and Anirudh Sakpal (boys’ team kumite, u-10). R. Thiagarajan, President, All-India Karate-Do Federation, was elected Vice-President of the Commonwealth Karate Federation and Vispy B. Kapadia, Vice-President of AIKF, was elected Executive Committee member.
