Talukdar, Banerjee out of contention

KOLKATA: It was a double blow for India at the fourth Meteksan World Cup archery at Boe in France on Wednesday.

The two contenders for the final at Lausanne, Rahul Banerjee and Jayanta Talukdar, failed to get their acts together when it mattered the most and were eliminated rather early.

Talukdar was ousted in the quarterfinals, while Banerjee went out in the second round.

Sixth-seeded Talukdar lost to 19th-ranked Xue Hai Feng of China 108-111 in the quarterfinals after defeating Calvin Hartley of South Africa (104 (9)-104 (7)) in the first round; 38th-ranked Crispin Duenas of Canada (106-104) in the second round and 54th-ranked Jean-Charles Valladont of France (107(10)-107(9)) in the pre-quarterfinals.

Second round loss

Banerjee lost to 50th-ranked Terry Simon of Great Britain 110-113 in the second round after overcoming 47th-placed Jantsan Gantugs of Mongolia 103-102 in the first round.

The third Indian, Waikhom Ranjan Singh, went down to 31st-ranked Romain Girouille of France 104-108.

India’s next medal hope will be in the team event.
