ANXIOUS: Students anxiously searching for their names on the first cut-off list at Delhi University’s Arts Faculty.

NEW DELHI: The first cut-off list for admissions put up by Delhi University colleges has evoked a mixed reaction from newcomers with some being thrilled at having made it to their dream college or course while others dejected at not making the mark.

Despite having scored a high 94 per cent, Reetika Kapoor missed an entry to B.Com. (Honours) at Shri Ram College of Commerce by a mere 0.5 per cent.

At Lady Shri Ram College, too, the same course is beyond her reach as per the first list. However, she is eligible to study Economics (Hons) at that institution. But SRCC is what she had always desired for.

Having failed to make it to SRCC, Harsh Gupta and Manish Kedia are hopeful of getting admission to the college through the second cut-off list.

“We have applied for B.Com. (Hons) in all colleges. But if not SRCC, then any other college will do,” they said with a shrug.

With the cut-off for Political Science (Hons) standing at 88 per cent, Pushkar Abbi is eligible for admission to some colleges and has missed the bus at a few others. He will take admission at Kirori Mal College for safety sake and wait for the second cut-off list at other colleges. He might cancel his admission at KMC if he makes it to Hindu College or Ramjas.

In fact, this is what most students plan to do as no one is willing to take a chance.

“I will take up Economics (Hons) at S.G.G.S. College of Commerce on Friday and wait for the second cut-off list at Hindu College as I want to study in a campus college,” said Neha Goel, who has scored 92.75 per cent.

Nikhil Sharma, whose first preference is Computer Science (Hons) at Hans Raj College, is mulling over getting enrolled in Chemistry (Hons) either at that institution or Sri Venkateswara College as of now. He is hopeful that the second cut-off list will make him eligible for his dream course.

There were many who proved to be first-time lucky.

Nivedita Bose had applied for Sociology (Hons) in different colleges and her best four percentage met the cut-off requirements at most colleges.

Having scored 87 per cent, Anuvansh Sharma was relieved that he could study Physics (Hons) at the colleges that he had applied to. “Since I meet the eligibility criteria in most of the colleges, I will take my time to decide what to do next,” he said.

Coming from Manipur, A. Bijayashanti Devi missed a seat for Physics (Hons) at Hindu. However, she was happy that she was eligible to study the same at Miranda House, which also has a hostel, thus addressing her problem of accommodation.

“I am keener on Hindu, but I am not sure if they will have a second list for the Other Backward Classes,” she said.

With a clear focus on Geology (Hons), Apurva Singh had applied only to the two colleges that offered this programme.

This student of Delhi Public School Mathura Road was glad she was eligible to purse it at Hans Raj according to the first list itself.

Visually challenged students Amit Kumar, Kamal Singh Yadav and Vinod Kumar Singh sounded happy knowing they could pursue the courses at colleges they had opted for.
