PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of the BJP on Friday sought the intervention of Lieutenant Governor Bhopinder Singh for the early completion of construction of a new bridge at Ariankuppam. In a memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor, district BJP president R. Ramu said the work began in January 2005 and should have been completed in 2006. However, owing to poor quality of subsoil and high yield of subsoil water, the construction of foundation well could not be carried out. The contractor who was assigned the project stopped the work owing to the rise in the cost of construction materials, he said. The party appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to give direction for completing the project at the earliest, the memorandum said.
