PUDUCHERRY: Founder of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) S. Ramadoss has cautioned his party activists against holding road-roko or bandh to highlight their demands. He was addressing a “victory rally” welcoming the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Education and Research (JIPMER) Act, 2008, here on Thursday. Flaying violent forms of protest staged by certain organisations, he told the partymen not to resort to burning of effigies, staging road-roko and observing bandh, which caused immense hardship to the public. Those who violate the guideline would be expelled from the party, he said. Referring to the inconvenience posed by bandhs called on flimsy grounds, Dr. Ramadoss said such protests could be staged on important issues, that too only with the consent of the public and the traders. Even if the people resorted to road-roko to air their grievances, PMK activists should intervene to persuade the locals to give up the protest, besides urging the officials concerned to sort out the problem, he said. Dr. Ramadoss allayed the apprehensions of the Group-D employees of JIPMER with regard to their job security. If there was any threat to their jobs, he would be the first to raise his voice to defend their rights and privileges.
