NEW DELHI: Unhappy with the arrangements made for public conveniences by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation at its stations, Harvinder Rana of Dwarka has decided to fight for better facilities for passengers. According to Mr. Rana, who was travelling on the metro from Dwarka to Vidhan Sabha on Thursday morning, the DMRC staff at Rajiv Chowk station refused to allow him to use the toilet facilities for staff members outside the station without forfeiting his ticket. “I told them since the toilet inside the station was not working, they should allow me to step outside and come back without having to forfeit my ticket for the onward journey. But they were unrelenting, and when I tried to cross the gate, they slapped a Rs.200 fine,” said Mr. Rana. The DMRC staff later handed Mr. Rana over to the metro police. “I was released after furnishing a bail bond, but I still refuse to pay the fine. A case has been filed in the railway court, which will come up for hearing on Saturday. I will fight it out there,” he said. For its part, the DMRC said Mr. Rana was caught while trying to leave the station by jumping over the gates. “We cannot allow anyone to leave the station without paying the fare. Allowing him out would be in violation of the rules,” said a DMRC official.
