AC dormitory for women at Central station

S. Anil Radhakrishnan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With a view to ensuring security and privacy of women commuters, the railways have set up ‘hut-type’ air-conditioned dormitory exclusively for women at the Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station.

Set up on the first floor of the station building at Thampanoor, the air-conditioned dormitory was thrown open to bonafide women commuters from Thursday.

Constructed at a cost of Rs.5 lakh, the dormitory has five hut-type beds. The ‘huts’ have been provided with cots, tables and chairs. Two common toilets have also been set up.

Only bonafide women commuters will be given accommodation and the tariff for 24 hours is Rs.200. The divisional railway authorities have also made available services of a lady attendant round-the-clock.

Room service will also be available at the dormitory at a nominal charge. Those staying here can place orders from restaurants on the railway premises.
