BANGALORE: The Congress on Friday alleged that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa was running the Government holding six independent MLAs, including five Ministers, as captives. Addressing presspersons here, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly M. Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that the Bhartiya Janata Party was “using all tactics” to continue in power. A statement by independents on Thursday that they continue to support the Government raises several questions, Mr. Kharge said. “There is no hidden agenda for the BJP now. Its agenda is open and the objective is to remain in power at any cost.” The Government might even file criminal cases against leaders of other parties if they refused to toe the BJP Government line”. Taking exception to Energy Minister K.S. Eshwarappa’s statement that the BJP was ready to split other political parties for the survival of the Government, Mr. Kharge said the statement exposed the BJP leaders’ confidence of completing the full five year term with the support of six independents. He said the Government was responsible for the fertilizer crisis in the State and said the party had not given up its demand for a joint house committee of the legislature to study the farmer suicides in the State.
