JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government has decided to speed up release of agricultural electricity connections to achieve the power companies’ target of giving out 1.50 lakh connections to farmers across the State. The power projects under construction will also be completed within the stipulated time. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said at a review meeting here that the agricultural connections pending till March 31, 2003, would be released during the current financial year. The power discoms have issued demand notices to over 56,900 consumers and released 2,500 connections. Ms. Raje said the power connections in the domestic category under the Kuteer Jyoti Yojana would be released shortly to benefit the people living in remote hamlets. The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of power plant units under construction while affirming that the target of augmenting the power production capacity to 2,019 MW would be achieved during 2008-09. The major units set to start production this year are those in the Giral lignite project and Chhabra, Suratgarh and Kota thermal power plants.
