BANGALORE: The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) heaved a sigh of relief when the Karnataka High Court on Thursday upheld a notification by the Government acquiring land at Doddabele village near Kengeri for setting up a sewage treatment plant. Justice B.S. Patil passed the order, permitting the BWSSB to go ahead with the 40 million litres daily (MLD) plant that was slated to come up on the outskirts of Bangalore. The petitioner, Asif-al-Habib Educational Trust, had questioned the action of the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) in acquiring its land. The petitioner contended that though it was the owner of the lands, it had not been notified by the KIADB. It said it was running an orphanage and school on the land. It urged the court to stay the acquisition. The Judge agreed with its contention that the land did not find mention in the final notification. He, however, said he was not inclined to interfere with the acquisition and dismissed the petition.
