DEHRA DUN: The Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Buta Singh, has given a week’s time to the Uttarakhand Government to arrest all those accused of raping a dalit girl at a city hotel recently. Reviewing the progress in the case, Mr. Singh questioned the Police why it had not taken the two arrested Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on remand for finding out the names of their three accomplices. “The three others seem to be powerful persons whom the Government wants to shield,” said Mr. Singh, adding that the Commission would be forced to take the help of a Central investigating agency if the State Government failed to solve the case within a week. He also wanted the State to provide security to the victim, her family and the social worker who helped her file the FIR, as they were allegedly being threatened by some ruling BJP leaders.
