Parties should decry attacks on journalists, says KUWJ

Special Correspondent

KANNUR: The Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) urged the leadership of all political parties to disapprove of attacks against journalists and to ensure freedom of the press.

KUWJ State president P.P. Sasindran said at a press conference here on Friday that the political parties should come out to decry those who were carrying out attacks on scribes engaged in reporting political agitations. Stating that mediapersons were not biased towards any political cause, he said that they were partial only to their commitment to gather and report news and events.

He called on the parties to take organisational action against those attacking the scribes.

Mr. Sasindran also said the police should intervene to ensure protection of journalists.
