Corrections and Clarifications

>>A report “R.S. Gavai is new Kerala Governor” (Kerala, June 27, 2008, page 1) had a sentence (in the sixth paragraph) “Mr. Gavai is the 15th Governor of the State.” It should have been “18th Governor”. (The report was based on the Legislature Secretariat publication titled “Governors addresses to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from 1957 to 1998”. It did not have the names of the Governors Mr. A.K. Jain and Mr. Swarup Singh. T.N. Chaturvedi, who was the Governor of Karnataka, only held additional charge of Kerala after the demise of Sikander Bakht.)

>>The nineteenth paragraph in a report “Qureshi’s India visit begins tomorrow” (“International” page, June 26, 2008) was “According to the statement, Mr. Farooq said the Pakistani invitation to APHC leadership had sent ‘positive signals to the Kashmiri people’ of the importance that Pakistan attached to the wishes of Kashmiri people in the search for a just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue”. The reference was to Mirwaiz Omer Farooq, All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman.

>>A report “Easy for Bangladesh” (“Sport”, June 26, 2008) said “United Arab Emirates, chasing a target of 301, lost its opening Asia Cup match to Bangladesh by 94 runs here on Tuesday”, while the scorecard gave it as “Bangladesh: 300 for eight in 50 overs and UAE: 204”. Bangladesh won by 96 runs. (The report appeared only in some editions.)
