NEW DELHI: The BJP on Friday sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s intervention in ending the stalemate in Jammu and Kashmir over land allocation for Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board. In a letter to Dr. Singh, BJP president Rajnath Singh said if the government failed to resolve the crisis, “it would not only snowball into a bigger controversy but can also further strengthen those elements who are inimical to the unity and integrity of India.” Referring to reports indicating a possible revocation of the allotment, he said: “Such a decision could lead to serious implications which, in turn, can vitiate the atmosphere of communal harmony throughout the country.” By withdrawing the allotment, the Centre could send a signal that the government had buckled under pressure and surrendered to the pressure tactics of certain separatists, he said. Urging it not to discriminate between religions in facilitating pilgrimages, he asked: “If there is no opposition to the Haj subsidy being provided by the government, then how can the government even appear to vacillate on such a sensitive issue of allotting land to the SASB.”
