Yatra suspended yet again

Staff Reporter

Jammu: The Amarnath Yatra was suspended on Friday, for the third time since it started on June 17, as protests continued over the transfer of forest land to the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board.

Pilgrims were not allowed to proceed from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp to the cave shrine, as part of a decision to restrict the rush so that the security blanket remained intact, sources told The Hindu. It was feared that the protesters might target the pilgrims.

On Thursday many pilgrims were stopped a few km from the Jawahar Tunnel, entry point to the Kashmir valley.
