Six meet records set on second day

KOLKATA: As many as six meet records were established on the second day of the four-day 25th sub-junior National aquatics at the Subhas Sarobar pool here on Friday.

Kanchi Desai of Maharashtra recorded her second meet record in the 200m individual medley event for girls in Group III.

Malavika V. of Karnataka set a new mark in the 50m freestyle for girls in Group IV, while Viraj Prabhu of Maharashtra sunk the 50m breaststroke record in the boys’ Group IV.

The fourth record was set by Tamil Nadu quartet of S. Vilassini, S. Angel Rose, Kavya Gopalakrishnan and V.K.R. Meenakshi in the 4 x 50m medley relay (Group III).

The diving event also saw two meet marks being obliterated in the highboard for girls in Group II and in one metre springboard for girls Group III.

Maharashtra continued to dominate the pool with solid performances.

The results: Group III (11-12 years): Boys: 50m freestyle: 1, Ranit Dey (Ben) 29.01s, 2. P. Phani Kumar (AP) 29.16, 3. Anurag Devgan (Asm) 29.62;.

200m IM: 1. Aravind M. (Kar) 2:36.34s, 2. Ishan Kulkarni (Mah) 2:38.63, 3. Akhilesh Ram (Kar) 2:38.65;.

4 x 50m medley relay: 1. Maharashtra 2:17.87s, 2. Uttar Pradesh 2:18.89, 3. Bengal 2:19.20.

Group IV (9-10 years): 50m freestyle: 1. Leander Pillai (Mah) 31.41s, 2. Viraj Prabhu (Mah) 31.47, 3. Munna Yadav (U.P.) 31.78.

50m breaststroke: 1. Viraj Prabhu (Mah) 40.17s (NMR, previous record 40.62s by Sagar Kumar (Asm) in 2007), 2. Munna Yadav (U.P.) 41.08, 3. Likith S.P. (Kar) 42.02.

Girls: Group III: 50m freestyle: 1. Rujuta Bhatt (Mah) 30.29s, 2. Ananya Panigrahi (Mah) 31.60, 3. Vani Sahani (Del) 31.72.

200m IM: 1. Kanchi Desai (Mah) 2:40.36s (NMR, previous record 2:44.35 by Bhoomi Motwani (Kar) in 2007), 2. S. Vilassini (TN) 2:45.31, 3. Ohileshwari M.K. (Kar) 2:47.73.

4 x 50m medley relay: 1. Tamil Nadu 2:21.76s (NMR, previous record 2:23.12s by Maharashtra in 2006), 2. Maharashtra 2:21.96, 3. Karnataka 2:24.85.

Group IV: 50m freestyle: 1. Malavika V. (Kar) 32.41s (NMR, previous record 32.60s by Kalyani Basu (Mah) 2003), 2. Swara Kulkarni (Mah) 33.00, 3. Aakanksha Vora (Mah) 33.03.

50m breaststroke: 1. Swara Kulkarni (Mah) 42.76s, 2. Ashwathy Nair (Mah) 42.82, 3. Damini K. Gowda (Kar) 43.39.

Diving: Boys: Group I (16-18 years): Springboard, 3m: 1. Billol Adhikary (Ben) 344.15, 2. Abhishek Tewari (U.P.) 303.10, 3. Samir Noraula (Goa) 275.70.

Group III (12-13): Springboard 1m: 1. Indrajit Shinde (Mah) 232.50, 2. Malengamba (Ser) 205.20, 3. Supratim Das (Ben) 204.40.

Girls: Group II (14-15 years): Highboard 1. Dipti Panwar (Del) 475.80 points (NMR, previous record 255.10 by Punam Shah (Mah) in 2006), 2. Priyanka Banerje (Ben) 239.90, 3. Jayanti Satarkar (Mah) 236.65.

Group III (12-13): Springboard 1m: 1. Swati Bidap (Mah) 244.50 (NMR, previous record 236.40 by Swati in 2007), 2. Jubith Saldaniha (Goa) 182.45, 3. Rachna Gawde (Mah) 171.85.
