HASSAN: Deputy Commissioner of Hassan district Anjum Parvez has been relieved of his post and will take over as Director of Municipal Administration. He handed over charge to zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer Shankarnarayana on Thursday. Although the order transferring Mr. Anjum Parvez to the new post was announced over two weeks ago, he was asked to stay back to deal with the fertilizer crisis. Among the 34 Deputy Commissioners who have worked in Hassan, Mr. Anjum Parvez’s tenure of 5 months and 28 days has been the shortest. Speaking to The Hindu before leaving for Bangalore on Thursday, Mr. Anjum Parvez said his major contribution to the district had been the revision of voters’ list and completion of delimitation of the Assembly constituencies. “We also made sure the elections were peaceful,” he said. Mr. Anjum Parvez said that the administration of the district had been smooth as there had been excellent coordination among his team members. He specifically mentioned the contribution of Superintendent of Police K.V. Sharatchandra and Mr. Shankarnarayana towards the smooth conduct of the administrative affairs of the district. Recalling the lorry accident that took place near Ramanathapura Agrahara, which resulted in the death of 25 people of a marriage party on May 29, Mr. Anjum Parvez said that the district administration was able to provide medical relief to the injured immediately, thereby saving many lives. Referring to the protest by farmers against fertilizer shortage, Mr. Anjum Parvez said the district administration saw to it that each farmer was provided with two bags of fertilizers. “This proved that with proper coordination, problems could be solved,” he said. Mr. Anjum Parvez said there was tremendous potential in Hassan district. A proposal for setting up a Special Economic Zone had been to the State Government, he said. He added that the land is located between Bangalore and Mangalore. The international airport in Hassan would also come up soon, Mr. Anjum Parvez said.
