Two-day State party executive meeting will be held from today Rourkela: BJP state president Suresh Pujari on Friday claimed the ruling BJD-BJP alliance under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik would fare better than last elections in the state. The two-day meeting of the State executive of BJP beginning here on Friday would discuss the election strategy and names of possible candidates for the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, Mr. Pujari said. According to the BJP leader, much care should be taken in the ensuing elections as the party and alliance BJD had lost several seats by narrow margins in the last election. In view of delimitation of seats, 141 of the 147 assembly constituencies and almost all the 21 Lok Sabha seats had been affected, he said. Election issuesThe successful performance of the coalition government in Orissa, price rise and growing Maoist menace would be the election issues, Mr. Pujari said. He ruled out any negligence of the districts of western Orissa, the state government had provided Rs 100 crore to Western Orissa Development Council (WODC). On the issue of leasing out mines in Gandhamardan hill of Bargarh district and Khandadhar in Sundargarh to private companies, the BJP leader said the government should take people into confidence before taking any decision. Gearing up for Lok Sabha as well as Assembly polls due next year, BJP stalwart L.K. Advani would launch BJD-BJP combine campaign on June 29 by addressing a public meeting here along with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. – PTI
