Land identified for compensatory afforestation IAS officer to be appointed nodal officer THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The way has been cleared for issuing title deeds to around 6,100 settler families in Pathanamthitta district with the identification of land for compensatory afforestation, Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran told the Assembly on Friday. Responding to a calling attention motion from Raju Abraham (CPI(M), the Revenue Minister said the land for compensatory afforestation had been found in Idukki district and that the matter would now be communicated to the Centre for its clearance. The government would also consider appointing a senior IAS officer as the Nodal Officer to oversee the grant of title deeds, the Revenue Minister said. Joint verificationMr. Rajendran said that out of 46,938.35 hectares of land that needed to be subjected to joint verification to identify land eligible for title deeds, the Revenue and Forest Departments had verified 31,829 hectares in Kottayam, Palakkad, Wayanad and Kozhikode districts. The State government had issued title deeds to 27,195 persons who had settled in forest tracts before January 1, 1977, the Revenue Minister said. The delay in granting title deeds to the remaining applicants was the difficulty in identifying land for compensatory afforestation, but this problem has now been sorted, the Revenue Minister pointed out.
