Four die as tipper falls from bridge
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: A woman labourer, her three-month-old baby boy and two more workers travelling in a tipper were killed when it fell off the Phiranginala bridge under the Narsingi police station area on Friday.
Tipper driver Balakishtaiah (40) and a labourer V. Choudamma, (28) who was sitting in the cabin, sustained serious injuries and were admitted to a nearby hospital.
V. Mallamma (35) of Manikonda, carrying her yet to be named son, was also in the cabin. The woman and her son died on the spot. Two more labourers -- B. Mallaiah (26) and Hussainappa (27) -- both hailing from Gulbarga in Karnataka, were sitting on the load of stones on the rear, Narsingi Inspector Ravichandan Reddy said.
Death was instant for them too as they fell from the nearly 30-feet high bridge. “The driver was coming from Kokapet to Narsingi at great speed. He apparently lost control while negotiating the narrow bridge. The vehicle overturned and fell,” the police said.
