DAP consignment for delta to arrive next week

TIRUCHI: A consignment of about 1,350 tonnes of granular urea, imported from Oman by the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), arrived here from Tuticorin on Friday.

Though urea was not an immediate requirement, as it is used only as top dressing, the consignment would go towards buffer stocks.

About 10,000 tonnes of the fertilizer would be stocked up for the kharif season requirement, B.Krishnan, Senior Area Manager, IFFCO, told The Hindu.

He also disclosed that a consignment of 2,500 tonnes of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP), meant for Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts, was expected to arrive at Thanjavur and Kumbakonam by Monday.

With delta farmers complaining of shortage of DAP, the arrival of the consignment was expected to come as a huge relief.

The consignment would be distributed by cooperative societies through the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Marketing Federation (TANFED).

Another consignment of 2,500 tonnes of DAP was expected to arrive at Madurai next week.

Mr.Krishnan said IFFCO had distributed about 5,095 tonnes of DAP, 6,500 tonnes of 20:20:13 and 2,500 tonnes of 10:26:26 complex fertilizers in the region till June 25 this season.
