Check dropout rate, Collector tells teachers
Staff Reporter
PUDUKOTTAI: Teachers should make all efforts to check the problem of children dropping out of schools, Collector Reeta Harish Thakkar said.
Mass contact programme
Speaking at a special ‘mass contact day’ programme held at Azhiyanilai village near Aranthangi on Friday, the Collector said that dropout was a social evil caused by poverty.
But teachers should play a pivotal role in ensuring the continuous education of students by sensitising them to the importance of literacy, she said.
She also appealed to the villagers to rise above gender discrimination in educating their children by enrolling the girls in the schools.
The Collector assured the villagers that steps would be taken to notify a bus-stop near the Cotton Mills in the village and for sanctioning house-site ‘pattas’ to Adi Dravidars.
House site pattas distributed
The Collector later distributed house site ‘pattas’ to five beneficiaries, sewing machines.
She also gave cheques for Rs.15,000 each under the ‘Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Marriage Assistance’ to 14 brides.
Alankudi MLA S. Rajasekaran and District Panchayat president C. Muthusamy were among those who spoke.
