Similarly, repair of body walls of Alagapuri and Nalliuppuodai anicuts in the same sub-basin region would be carried out and retaining walls constructed along the banks to enhance water retention. Once the works were completed, irrigation service delivery to the command area of Senkottaiyar river sub-basin area spread over 730 hectares would be improved substantially. Crop promotionFor effective utilisation of water, the Department of Horticulture plans to promote cultivation of chillies and coriander in the command area at a cost of Rs. 1,68,750 allocated under a separate component of IAMWARM project. “We will establish demonstration plots spread over 15 hectares to make farmers aware of right methods for effective use of improved water delivery,” C. Palanivelayudham, Assistant Director of Horticulture, said. Besides, the department would distribute improved varieties of seeds, bio-fertilizers and plant protection chemicals at subsidised rates.
