Adambakkam police said Saranya (22) and Abdullah (26) lived in Ramakrishnapuram. On Monday night, the stove which Saranya was using burst into flames . Saranya’s clothes caught fire and she cried out for help. Abdullah, who tried to come to her rescue, was injured. Noticing the commotion, neighbours rushed to their help and admitted the couple at the Burns Ward of Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where Saranya died the next day morning and Abdullah on Thursday. The couple have a 15-month-old baby girl.
Man held
The Pallikaranai police have arrested a 25-year-old man, Balaji, in connection with the suicide of his 21-year-old wife. Balaji had married Kasturi about 18 months ago and they lived with their 5-month-old son in Periyar Nagar. On Tuesday evening, Kasturi was found hanging inside the house, following which an investigation by the Revenue Divisional Officer was ordered.
Investigations established that the woman had committed suicide unable to bear the dowry-related harassment of her husband.
